On Sunday, March 28, 2010 Fotomission and Tropicolor hosted the 6th South Beach Photomarathon at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden with over one hundred participants.

Sign-in began at 9:30AM, final instructions were issued at 10:45AM and the contestants were off with their first two topics, expensive and exciting, at 11:00AM.

Jeff Bud and Billy Grayden from the Apple store on Lincoln Road were there to capture on video the day’s excitement and interviewing the organizers and participants about the event.

Next stop, Ocean Drive and 14th.  There were more interviews at this stop, some people had a snack at the Starbucks and we handed out the next two topics: black-and-white and sexy…and, on they went to the last stop at Lincoln Road and Meridian to pick up the last two topics: forbidden and abstract.

At 4:00PM, back at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, we had the Apple Store manager Cheryl Miller and her gang of techies: Joey Serrano, Sharif Mohammed, Jeff Bud and Billy Grayden assist the participants with the downloading of their images. Refreshments and snacks were offered to all participants and it was nice to see people mingling and discussing their shots with great enthusiasm. Everybody was exhausted but happy for the day’s fun. Although the overcast day provided conditions of diffused light and easy exposure and some relief from the heat, the secret topics provided a challenge for the contestants to be creative and express themselves in interesting ways, all within the time span of five hours. A lot of great images were captured!

All the participants' photos will be exhibited until the end of May at the Tropicolor Gallery.  The winners were announced and awarded during the opening of the exhibition on Friday, May 14th, 2010 from 6-8PM at Tropicolor, 1442 Alton Road, Miami Beach.

We thank our sponsors, volunteers and all the participants for making this another successful and fun photomarathon, and for helping us raise funds to produce “The Waiting”, an exhibition of children in foster care hoping to fine loving homes that will be presented at the Miami Children’s Museum during November, National Child Adoption Month.
