2nd South Beach Photomarathon

On Sunday, March 19, 2006 Fotomission again hosted the South Beach Photomarathon. Tropicolor, Starbucks, Tiffany & co. and the Cardozo Hotel sponsored the event with much success. The participating photographers each brought their own vision and creativity to the event and produced a very interesting array of images for the six topics they were assigned to photograph. The topics, which were kept secret until the event day included, strong, sexy, calm, pink, adornment and statement.

They were purposefully vague to give the photographers plenty of latitude for
self-expression.

On this beautiful cool and sunny day, we gathered at the Cardozo Hotel where the photographers were given their first two topics at 11:30 a.m. Every two hours they were given the next set topics at different locations in South Beach. While a few rode bikes or drove, most walked around South Beach, exploring the area for their artistic ideas. The photomarathon ended at 4:30 p.m. at Tropicolor, where the contestants finally turned in their film or digital files. At 5:00 p.m. we met back at the Cardozo for drinks and an interesting exchange of the day’s events.

The winners of the Second South Beach Photomarathon were awarded on April 1. There were prizes for the best overall photographers, as well as for the best photograph for each topic. The photographs were on display at the Tropicolor Gallery from April 1 to May 15.

We all had a great time and hope you will join us next year!
