4th South Beach Photomarathon

On Sunday, April 20th, Fotomission and Tropicolor hosted the 4th South Beach Photomarathon at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden.

One hundred and four contestants were assigned six topics to photograph on South Beach over a period of five hours. The topics, Green, Wild, Refreshing, Hot, Style and Only on South Beach, were kept secret until the event day and were be purposefully vague to give the contestants plenty of room for self-expression.

The best photos from each topic were selected, and from those the first, second and third place winners were awarded cash and other prizes.  The winners will be exhibited, as will the contact sheets from every contestant, at the Tropicolor gallery during the month of May.

The exhibition opened with a reception on May 2nd, from 5:00 to 7:00PM, at Tropicolor's gallery, 1442 Alton Road, Miami Beach. During the reception the following winners were awarded:

There were three honorable mentions; Carlos Miller, Cody Kirschner and Alissa Christine.

All winners also received a gift bag from Starbucks and a large print mounted in Plexiglas of their winning photo, courtesy of Tropicolor.

Many thanks to Ginny Dixon from the Miami Ad School and Scott Weber from Barry University for their expertise and hard work in judging this contest.

We are very pleased that everyone had a great time, and want to thank all the participants, sponsors and volunteers for making this a very successful event.

Thank you for the wonderful day at the Photomarathon. It was a great experience and a day I will always remember! My friend Tammy and I came from Sarasota and thought it was very well planned and thought out.

Thank you again!

I really enjoyed myself.....I am a novice photographer, but did not feel too terribly nervous about the event.  I can not make it back over to SoBe (from Sarasota) for the May festivities but I am sure you will all have a fantastic time sharing many laughs and stories about the photo marathon.

Cheers to you all for your hard work in organizing the fun-filled/challenging event!

Hi Guys, it was so nice seeing you on Sunday and participating again.  I hated all my pictures (of course) but loved just being out there and shooting, I decided that next year I am taking pictures that I would actually hang on my walls and go from there.

I am Johnnie Cope, the 3rd place winner of the Photomarathon. What an incredible experience! I have a great passion for photography and have taken many photos through the years. I have never studied or have any type of training in photography. Hopefully this will inspire and show others like me to get out of your comfort zone and take some chances - you never know. A quote I posted on my computer a few months ago says it all, " You cannot imagine the life you denied yourself".

Thanks a million and see you guys soon,
Johnnie Cope
